At Oxford Greens Early Education Centre, we have meticulously designed the 2-3 Trees Room where the development needs of toddlers are emphasized and supported. Our initiative reflects the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The reason for organizing this dynamic and vibrant space is to keep the kids encouraged to actively explore and learn. That is why, we dedicatedly allow them to be a part of structured activities and open-ended play.
The room's features aim at stimulating the toddler's curiosity and fostering their cognitive, physical and social development. Hence, we have arranged a range of developmentally appropriate resources, including sensory tables, creative art materials and interactive play equipment.
Being in alignment with the EYLF outcomes, Trees 2-3 Years room promotes a play-based learning approach to encourage the toddlers to be engaged in activities to enhance their problem-solving skills, language development and social interactions. We have set an environment facilitating both individual and group play, where the children can explore their interests and collaborate with their peers. We have proactive educators to support each child’s learning journey. They provide scaffolding and guidance to help the children expand their thinking abilities and problem-solving skills. Our educators encourage the toddlers to be expressive of their ideas, make choices and develop a sense of agency through intentional interactions and questioning.
As is stressed by the EYLF on how important is it to build secure relationships, in the Tress 2-3 Room, we achieve this through responsive and supportive caregiving. Our educators attune themselves to each child's needs and interests, hence creating a warm and trusting atmosphere that fosters emotional security. Our flexible yet consistent activities provide the toddlers with a sense of stability while enabling them to explore and experiment. Through this approach, we are supporting their emotional and social development, while helping them to build self-confidence and positive relationships with others.
In addition to it, the Trees 2-3 Years Room integrates the learning experience promoting physical development and well-being. Gross motor activities, like climbing and balancing, are also incorporated into the daily routine to support physical growth and coordination. We help the children to enhance their fine motor skills through activities such as drawing, building and manipulating small objects. We have designed these experiences to be in alignment with the EYLF's focus on promoting holistic development, that ensures meeting each child's physical, emotional and cognitive needs.
On the whole, the Trees 2-3 Years Room at Oxford Greens Early Learning Centre embodies the principles of the EYLF. That is why, we are providing a rich and supportive learning environment where the toddler's growth and development is nurtured. Through a combined purposeful play, responsive caregiving and focus on holistic development, our Trees 2-3 Years Room helps to lay a strong foundation for each enrolled child’s future learning and well-being.
