At Oxford Greens Early Education Centre, the 4 - 6 Leaves Room has been designed to align with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) by providing an enriching and dynamic environment catering to the older preschoolers' developmental needs. Being thoughtfully organized, this space encourages the children to independent and collaborative learning. The aim is to support them as they are transitioning towards primary school. The 4 - 6 Leaves Room has designated areas for literacy, numeracy, creative arts and science exploration to foster a well-rounded educational experience to nurture each child's emerging abilities and interests.
Keeping in line with the EYLF outcomes, the 4 - 6 Leaves Room has emphasized a play-based approach to learning, by integrating structured activities with opportunities for self-directed exploration. The engaging learning experiences the educators create, challenge the children’s thinking while promoting problem-solving skills. Activities, like group projects, role-playing and investigative play have been designed for stimulating cognitive development and encouraging children to connect between their learning and the world surrounding them. The educators facilitate discussions and guide explorations, to help the children develop critical thinking and effective communication skills.
The EYLF even highlights how important is it to build strong, respectful relationships that make the key focus in the Leaves room. To foster a positive social environment, the educators encourage cooperation, respect and empathy among children. The room's layout comprises spaces for group activities and collaborative projects promoting teamwork and social interaction. The educators are strictly attentive to the children's individual needs and interests, thereby providing personalized support and feedback to help the children build self-confidence and a sense of belonging within the group.
At the same time, physical development and well-being are equally integral to the 4 - 6 Leaves Room environment. In the room, there are areas for both active play and quiet reflection whereby the children can balance physical activity with relaxation. Children develop gross motor skills through activities such as games and outdoor play. We support them to develop fine motor skills through art and construction tasks. Through this balanced approach, the children's physical needs are properly met together with their cognitive and emotional growth.
Overall, the 4 - 6 Leaves Room set-up Oxford Greens Early Education Centre is dedicated to setting up a rich, supportive environment aligned with the EYLF principles. With purposeful play and responsive interactions being integrated, and keeping focus on holistic development, the 4 - 6 Leaves Room guides the children to get prepared for the transition to formal schooling while fostering a proper love for learning to build a stronger foundation for future academic and personal success.
